This is a favourite session tune that, in common with many of my musician friends, I've known for donkey's years - so long that I have no idea where I first heard it. Over the years it has certainly evolved in the hands of session players including my own, if Jimmy Shand's 1956 recording of the Orcadian Waltz is anything to go by. But that's as it should be: informal music is about making songs, tunes and dances our own...

The melodeon is an old Koch box in CF made some time in the 1920s, and has the soft sweet sound that's so characteristic of melodeons made in that era.
