Also known as Geordie, Georgie is included in the Child collection of ballads as well as many broadside versions, and has been collected
widely in Scotland and England.

We think the version that Joseph Taylor sang to Percy Grainger in 1906 has a particularly lovely and striking tune.

Old Joseph could only recall the lyrics of one verse on that occasion, so the set Julie sings here were assembled by Bert Lloyd from several different sources and supplied to Patrick O’Shaughnessy for his book 21 Lincolnshire Folk Songs, which was published by the OUP in 1968.
